Who We Are
The Center for Volunteer Caregiving is a nonprofit organization serving Wake County. Our mission is to engage the diverse Wake County community by providing volunteer service solutions in an inclusive and welcoming environment to improve the lives of seniors, family caregivers and adults with disabilities. All of our services are provided at no charge by volunteers. We have three different programs that we use to assist seniors and adults with disabilities: transportation, in-home connections, and caregiver respite.
For seniors living alone, social isolation may be compounded by the inability to drive oneself. In Wake County, the cost of privately hiring a companion or paying for transportation or help to support a family’s efforts can be exorbitant, and help can be hard to find. The Center for Volunteer Caregiving offers a solution.
What We Do
The Center provides services through three core programs: The Transportation Program provides volunteer services for escorted and door-through-door transportation for medical appointments, prescription pick-up and grocery shopping; The Caregiver Support Program provides respite or “time off” for family caregivers; The In-Home Connections Program provides friendly visiting from volunteers and chore services that includes light housekeeping, paperwork assistance and grocery shopping and are focused on maintaining a safe and healthy environment in addition to social contact. There are no fees for these services.
Volunteers give anywhere from 3 hours a month driving a senior to a doctor’s appointment to 8 hours a month providing a variety of services. Volunteers choose their level of commitment in their community and on their schedule.
