Who We Are

The home of James & Nancy Bennett where Union General William T. Sherman met with Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston to negotiate the terms of surrender of almost 90,000 confederate troops.  The meetings took place on April 17th, 18th and 26th, 1865.  This event took place following the surrender of Robert E. Lee to Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox on April 9, 1865 and after the death of President Abraham Lincoln.  The surrender of the largest confederate forces effectively ended the American Civil War.
