What We Do

Durham County Government serves a population of over 330,000 residents across 299 square miles, operating under a $1.04 billion budget for the 2025–2026 fiscal year. The organization employs approximately 2,000 people to deliver mandated and essential services.
Community Partnerships & Engagement
The Durham County Community Partnerships & Engagement Department, along with members of the Durham County Leadership Academy, created this portal to help DCo employees find opportunities to volunteer in our community.

The County Manager's Office and Human Resources Department have provided Durham County employees with monthly paid volunteer hours that can be used with local organizations in our community and our own departments that support the County's Strategic Goal areas.

Community Strategic Goals

The county’s broader impact is guided by five strategic goals:
  • Shared Economic Prosperity: Expanding workforce development and supporting small businesses.

  • Safe Community: Partnering with stakeholders to respond to emergencies and ensure fair justice.
  • Thriving Environment: Protecting natural resources and promoting sustainability.
  • High-Performing Organization: Maintaining fiscal stability and exceptional customer service through its workforce.
