We need people to help our elementary students with reading and math skills. You may work with one child or a small group. A commitment to one hour per week would be wonderful!

You must pass a background check to volunteer in Lee County Public Schools.

Caring, concerned individuals are needed to help in our shelter, providing staffing during day, evening, weekend, and holiday hours.  Individuals will be required to attend 20-40 hours of training, if they are not current crisis volunteers.  Shelter staff are available to assist shelter residents and to help with the organization of the shelter.

We need people who can drive once a month or so to take Lee County cancer patients to treatment appointments. Drivers pick up patients at their homes, take them to their appointments, and then take them back home. The patients are Lee County residents, but they may be receiving treatment outside Lee County (Duke, UNC, Moore Regional).

Calling all shoppers! We need you to help us shop at the Southern Pines Food Bank, where we can make purchases of needed food at very low prices. You'll complete a short training session during your firs trip, and then you'll be ready to help us get the food we need to assist our clients.

You don't need to have a truck to be a shopper; volunteer shopper/drivers will provide transportation in the Salvation Army van. Click Respond to Need to help out, and thank you!

If you have a talent that you would like to share with us we would love to be your audience! Our participants enjoy music, whether it is acoustic, dancing with the music from a DJ, or clapping their hands and stomping their feet to the music from a live band.  

If you would like to come by and and give us a short performance, you will be accepted by a very appreciative and welcoming audience. You could also donate tickets to a show or event you may be having--anything would be valued and received with gratitude.

Mentors make a difference by supporting youth as they strive for academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles.  Boys & Clubs Mentors meet with youth one-on-one or one-on-small group one time per week to develop trusting relationships and implement targeted programs that develop self-esteem and healthy decision making.  Mentors can choose to support youth at the Robin Paige Club of Lillington in Harnett County, or the O.T. Sloan Park Club of Sanford in Lee County.

When you volunteer at a Boys & Girls Club, you can make a difference in the lives of youth and give back to your community. Within the first few minutes of walking into a Club, you know you’re in a special place. Filled with the sounds and energy of spirited children and friendly, caring professionals, the Club is a fun and hopeful environment. Free Little Libraries are set up through Lee County, NC to inspire a love of reading, builds community, and sparks creativity by fostering neighborhood book exchanges around the community.

The idea behind these little libraries is that people in the community can borrow books from and place books in them.  Donations of used books help to keep these libraries stocked with material for all ages.

We need some help with cleaning up and removing the debris from the men's shelter. You'll need to bring:

Face masks covering both the nose and mouth must be worn by all volunteers. 

Confidentiality must be respected of anything seen or heard while on the job site for the protection of OMI's clients, staff and volunteers.

We are in need of volunteer Tutors to intern at Dunn PAL 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 days a week 1-2 hours a day helping kids either in K-3rd, 4-5th, 6th-8th and 9th-12th with Tutoring, homework help and/or College and Career Readiness Training!

Boys & Girls Club volunteers are helping the youth in our community recover from the ongoing effects COVID-19 has had on academic and social emotional learning. Volunteers will directly engage children and teens in programming designed to empower youth to excel in school, become good citizens and lead healthy, productive lives.

Maintain operation during shift, answering crisis line during shift hours, providing support and advocacy to clients, safety planning, making referrals to the support group and other services and agencies as determined by community referral plan, provide case management service for shelter residents, provide shelter screening, intake and orientation, assist clients with law enforcement, courts, and medical systems, maintain client records on a daily basis and assure confidentiality.

Mission

The mission of Reach One Mentor Program (ROMP) is to reach at risk youth in our community and help them reach their potential through one-on-one mentoring partnerships.

Who is Involved

Boys and Girls (ages 11-15) residing in the Dunn area and living primarily in single-parent families, or are in need of a secondary role model. They are children who want and need a one-on-one relationship with an adult friend. These children are generally growing up in the absence of a father and/or mother’s influence.

Referrals come from parents, school personnel, various agencies and the children themselves. each child is invited to attend a mandatory sex abuse prevention orientation to obtain information. Parents are strongly encouraged to also attend this session.

Mentors are carefully screened volunteers. They must supply reliable references; go through background checks and an interview before being accepted as a volunteer.

Like the child, our volunteers come from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. They are at least eighteen (18) years old, single or married, or perhaps have families of their own. Some have grown up in single-parent families themselves or others just know they want to be of help to a child in a direct and significant way.

Length of commitment

At least one year to include 4 hours a month.

We are operating a Day Center for the homeless in our community.  This center is located at 219 Maple Ave, inside of the Bread of Life.  We offer a hot breakfast everyday.  We are always in need of

This donation can be dropped off between the hours of 9am-2pm Monday thru Friday at the Bread of Life.

We are in need of donations of all sizes of diapers, wipes, and feminine products to help stock our Happy Bottoms Bank. 

Not everyone is able to afford these necessities.  We want to help where we can.  Individuals needing assistance are able to request each type of item on a monthly basis.  

Donations can be dropped off one of our two current community drop off sites (Lee County Public Library or Books at a Steal) or you can call our office at 919-774-9496 to arrange a time to drop off at the office.  

We are looking for volunteers to help do clerical work and sort donations at our Day Center.

Assist in the class with children during reading time, some tutoring, one-on-one and and additional duties to help the teacher. There are no set times for this position; any time during the school day would be a great help.

It is vital to our participants' self-esteem, independence, and health that they learn and be encouraged in good health and hygiene habits. We impart these lessons daily, but outside encouragement, instruction and education would be outstanding! There are many ways you can help:

If you are a student at CCCC in a health- or mental health-related program, come share information with our participants.

If you're a fitness instructor, come and teach our participants some great low-impact exercises or stretches.

Are you a dietitian? Come teach our participants about healthy food choices.

LCI is looking for someone to engage the minds of our participants with science and history.

Science could include, but is not limited to, lessons in biology, technology, or agriculture.

History could include, but is not limited to, stories, uniforms, and equipment used for reenactments. If you have served in the military, you could talk about your service, what it means for you to serve or have served, what your uniform looks like, and what each stripe or medal stands for.

These are some options, but we are open to any ideas or services you may have to offer.

Here at LCI we serve a diverse group of individuals with different barriers to employment and independent living.  We are looking for someone who would be interested in teaching the importance of money management and financial stability to our participants in the Vocational Rehabilitation Program as well as to some of our Day Program participants.  

These individuals have limited resources for their success in living independently. Some are working towards making a new life for themselves, while some are just on the cusp of living independently for the first time in their lives.

It would be extremely beneficial and enlightening for these individuals to receive information and encouragement on how to manage a budget and make the most of what they have.

We are currently seeking out an affordable way to fix two of our plumbing needs.

1. We have a sink faucet that consistently leaks if the handle on the sink is not turned in a specific position.

2.  There is a toilet in the participants's mens' restroom that has a loose handle that hinders flushing at times.
