Camp Shine is a vibrant, inclusive summer camp dedicated to providing a joyful and supportive experience for campers with Down syndrome and their siblings. We are seeking compassionate, energetic, and playful individuals to serve as Summer Camp Counselors.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and engage campers through a daily rotation of structured and play-based activities including art, dance, indoor play, and outdoor play.
- Assist with daily routines such as lunch and snack time.
- Be actively involved in all aspects of camp life, modeling and encouraging inclusive, hands-on play.
- Ensure camper safety, emotional wellbeing, and inclusion throughout the day.
- Support individual campers as needed.
- Attend pre-camp training to understand camper needs, camp procedures, and strategies for support.
Requirements:
- Must be 15+
- Available for one or both of the following camp weeks:
- Week One: July 6–10, 2026
- Week Two: July 13–17, 2026
- Daily hours: 8:45am-1:45pm (camp hours will be 9am-1pm, but we'll need your help with set up and clean up each day)
- Enthusiasm for working with people of all abilities
- Strong sense of empathy, patience, and adaptability
- Ability to work collaboratively with other counselors and camp staff
- Prior experience with children or individuals with disabilities is a plus, but not required
- Must be able to be physically active and engaged throughout the camp day
