Volunteer: Camp SHINE 2026 Counselor

Camp Shine is a vibrant, inclusive summer camp dedicated to providing a joyful and supportive experience for campers with Down syndrome and their siblings. We are seeking compassionate, energetic, and playful individuals to serve as Summer Camp Counselors.


Responsibilities:


Supervise and engage campers through a daily rotation of structured and play-based activities including art, dance, indoor play, and outdoor play.Assist with daily routines such as lunch and snack time.Be actively involved in all aspects of camp life, modeling and encouraging inclusive, hands-on play.Ensure camper safety, emotional wellbeing, and inclusion throughout the day.Support individual campers as needed.Attend pre-camp training to understand camper needs, camp procedures, and strategies for support.

Requirements:


Must be 15+Available for one or both of the following camp weeks:Week One: July 6–10, 2026Week Two: July 13–17, 2026Daily hours: 8:45am-1:45pm (camp hours will be 9am-1pm, but we'll need your help with set up and clean up each day)Enthusiasm for working with people of all abilitiesStrong sense of empathy, patience, and adaptabilityAbility to work collaboratively with other counselors and camp staffPrior experience with children or individuals with disabilities is a plus, but not requiredMust be able to be physically active and engaged throughout the camp day
